First, let\u2019s all agree on one simple precept: every human on Earth loathes<\/i> being bossed around.\u00a0 Every.\u00a0 Single.\u00a0 One.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We are programmed to do the opposite<\/strong> of what we are commanded<\/i> to do.<\/p>\n

That is what a healthy<\/i> human does!\u00a0 We are not meant to obey rude and brusque<\/i> commands and demands.<\/p>\n

How would we ever become a freethinking, creative, and inspired people if we blindly followed commands?<\/p>\n

So, how can parents stop all that bossing around?<\/b><\/p>\n

[sc name=”Button Conflict to Cooperation Left”]<\/p>\n

<\/b>1) \u00a0 Acknowledge that you are being bossy and have been calling that “parenting.” \u00a0<\/strong>This is not a failure on your part. \u00a0This doesn’t mean that everything is a mess. \u00a0It means you have fallen into a pattern that is not working for you. \u00a0Accept the pattern, accept the responsibility, and begin to forgive yourself and move on.<\/p>\n

2) \u00a0Think before you speak<\/b>.\u00a0 Ask yourself:\u00a0 \u201cHow can I say this in a way that is more respectful?\u00a0 More kind?\u201d \u00a0If you cannot think of another, keep your mouth shut until you can.<\/p>\n

3<\/strong>)\u00a0\u00a0 Check your own stress.\u00a0 <\/b>The more we stressed we are, the more bossy we become.\u00a0 We need to simply pause and, unless someone is in danger, decide that our request is best left for later. \u00a0When we are stressed, our brain is telling us everything is\u00a0imminent<\/i>. \u00a0Our brain is trying to protect us (thanks, brain!), but it is really just creating more mayhem. \u00a0And bossiness.<\/p>\n

4)<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0Establish a routine.\u00a0 <\/b>If the table\u00a0\"iStock_000013029401Small\"<\/a><\/span>always <\/i>needs to be set, why do we demand and boss it every single evening?\u00a0 Set up a routine where the kids can manage themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n

5)<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0Ask yourself if the request is developmentally appropriate.\u00a0 <\/b>This is not necessarily by age; this is also about your<\/i> child! \u00a0Often, we are commanding and demanding our children to do things, but they are either not ready, brain-wise or physically. \u00a0The child’s lack of readiness or our poor routines lead to nagging and then POOF! \u00a0We are bossing them around.<\/p>\n

6) \u00a0Get support. \u00a0<\/strong>Your spouse, your partner, friends, childcare, other family members\u2026have them catch your\u00a0bossiness<\/strong> and have them call you on it. \u00a0Hang up stickies that say, “KIND REQUESTS.” \u00a0Whatever you need to do!<\/p>\n
