My four year old has been doing the bedtime “jack-in-the-box” routine for the last week.<\/h3>\n

In and out of her bed.<\/h4>\n

She has worries.<\/h4>\n

In and out.<\/h4>\n

Her little brain has fears.<\/h4>\n

In and out.<\/h4>\n

She just isn’t sleepy…<\/h4>\n

In and out.<\/h4>\n

One more tuck-in?<\/h4>\n

In and out.<\/h4>\n

Tonight she crawle\"Me<\/a>d into my bed, “Mama, I am just going to visit you, I am not staying.”<\/h4>\n

I said, “it’s okay,” and rubbed her back.<\/h4>\n

Was it okay? No. I was solo-parenting and tired and annoyed, but I was out of options.<\/h4>\n

After some long sighs, she said, “I am just going to close my eyes, but not sleep.”<\/h4>\n

Okay.<\/h4>\n

She was snoring in less than a minute.<\/h4>\n

Young children cannot control their alarm.<\/h4>\n

They cannot “grow up” or “get brave” or “get over it.”<\/h4>\n

Oh, I wish it were so.<\/h4>\n

So, my little lovely needed a break from her alarm and poof!<\/h4>\n

Instant safety.<\/h4>\n

Instant sleep.<\/h4>\n
