Well, this is it.\u00a0 My big debut PARENTING BLOG.\u00a0 Meghan Leahy, Parent Coach.\u00a0 Whew.\u00a0 Been a long path here\u2026years of education, teaching, and of course, having kids.\u00a0 So, I am now going to deliver some serious parenting advice.\u00a0 Fix all yer problems, right now.<\/p>\n

Nah.\u00a0 I am watching The Bachelor.\u00a0 Brad, I hope you pick Emily.\u00a0 You may not watch the show (you are better off for it, trust me) and you may be wondering \u201chmmm.\u00a0 A parent coach is watching that drivel?\u201d\u00a0 Yes, yes I am.<\/p>\n

Everyday, I literally spend sun up to sun down thinking about parenting and kids.\u00a0 My parenting skills, my kids; your parenting skills, your kids.\u00a0 How do I improve my own skills?\u00a0 How do I improve helping others?\u00a0 How do I get the marker off the walls? (happens at my house, too)\u00a0 By the way, gotta own the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.\u00a0 It is a little miracle in and of itself.\u00a0 But it is parenting, work and kids, kids, parenting, and work, 24\/7.\u00a0 I am in the trenches with you.<\/p>\n

So, when the sun goes down and the kids are asleep, I sometimes read parenting stuff, do work, e-mail, etc.\u00a0 But I often watch crap TV.\u00a0 Bachelor.\u00a0 Glee.\u00a0 General Hospital (DVR\u2019d, all of it).\u00a0 Gotta check out.\u00a0 Gotta let the brain slide.\u00a0 Tilt a little.\u00a0 Potty training, starting a business, connecting with my husband, talking to my parents and in-laws, buying diapers, checking homework\u2026the list goes on.\u00a0 I know it does for you, too and one cannot stay there mentally, with the to-do lists and the worries.\u00a0 It can hijack everything\u2026your joys, your hopes, your ability to enjoy what you have, right now and right here.<\/p>\n

The PARENT COACH instructs you to check out a little.\u00a0 Not in a totally zoned-out, unapproachable way, but in a way that help you box up the worries and lists, and set them aside for a bit.\u00a0 Your child may be intense, challenging, and showing behaviors that are stumping you.\u00a0 You may have trouble communicating with your spouse.\u00a0 You may feel exhausted by everything life is handing you.\u00a0 You go to bed, and you wake up and it is all there.\u00a0 The problems, the obstacles, the work, and the kids.<\/p>\n

But we need to STOP.\u00a0 Stop the worrying, stop the thinking, the analyzing, stop the constant fixing!\u00a0 We view our children and our relationships as only problems to be fixed or overcome, and that is mentally and physically exhausting.\u00a0 And, you may have noticed, all that worrying and analyzing doesn\u2019t seem to work.<\/p>\n

So, POOF, I release you from the worry.\u00a0 At least for the night.\u00a0 We cannot fully love our kids when we worry and want to \u201cfix\u201d them.\u00a0 Yes, there are issues and we won\u2019t pretend there aren\u2019t.\u00a0 But the kids are not only problems, you are not the only answer, and you need to trust, that for tonight, you have done the best you can for the day.\u00a0 It is over.\u00a0 So watch or read something meaningless.\u00a0 Exercise.\u00a0 Do some yoga.\u00a0 Sit quietly.\u00a0 Mentally release yourself from the responsibility of taking care of everything and everyone.\u00a0 Tomorrow will come and you will deal with it then.\u00a0 Practice letting go for now.\u00a0 Oh, and get the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
