Read This."},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"large-12 columns entry-content__output non-vc-entry\"><strong>Someone just asked me, &#8220;Meghan, what do you what parents to know before they send their little ones off to school?&#8221; \u00a0Here you go:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Look at your children with a calm and loving face<\/strong>.\u00a0 If you are going to cry, well go ahead and cry, but try to keep the worst of it for the car.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 That child wants and <em>NEEDS<\/em> for your face to show confidence.\u00a0 He is not sure he can do this, so you are the person to communicate, \u201c<em>I love you, you got this, I believe in you.<\/em>\u201d\u00a0 Then go sob your eyeballs out in the car.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No Comparisons.<\/strong>\u00a0 Other children will be more talented than your child.\u00a0 Others will be able to read better, play soccer better, will be prettier, more well spoken, more potty-trained, sit more quietly for longer periods of time.\u00a0 OR, your children will appear to be light-years ahead of the others.\u00a0 <em>None of this matters.<\/em>\u00a0 At all.\u00a0 Your child is just right, just the way he or she is.\u00a0 Any comparison is futile and mean, and only serves to highlight perceived deficiencies, thus making them worse.\u00a0 No Comparisons.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sleep.<\/strong>\u00a0 However much you think you or the kids need, add another hour.\u00a0 I know it ain\u2019t pretty after a summer break to lay down the rules, but sleep is as critical as anything you can give your child for her learning and welfare.\u00a0 Yours, too.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eat.\u00a0 <\/strong>Eat and give foods (to your children) that you can pull out of the ground or recognize in its natural state.\u00a0 Whole, good foods helps stabilize the crazy yanking around sugar can do to a little brain\u2026more sugar equals more mood swings&#8230;which leads to:<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be ready for exhaustion and crankiness.\u00a0 <\/strong>Yours and his.\u00a0 Your child is working his little butt off to be an exemplary child in school, so you are going to bear the brunt of his exhaustion.\u00a0 It isn\u2019t personal.\u00a0 He is doing his best.\u00a0 Cut him some slack, and for the love of Pete, DO NOT SCHEDULE ANYTHING YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR OR CANNOT EASILY BACK OUT OF (after school, especially).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be Kind to Yourselves.\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, the whole family.\u00a0 Celebrate the end of the first week with a special outing, a Sundae Sunday Dinner, a movie, a game, a dance party, a soccer match, a Kick-the-Can game, etc.\u00a0 Have some fun; you all have earned it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>xoxo<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Someone just asked me, &#8220;Meghan, what do you what parents to know before they send their little ones off to school?&#8221; \u00a0Here you go: Look at your children with a calm and loving face.\u00a0 If you are going to cry, well go ahead and cry, but try to keep the worst of it for the car.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 That child wants [&#8230;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":5,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[348],"tags":[263,57,266,489,63],"class_list":["post-817","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-school","tag-anxiety","tag-bedtime-2","tag-eating","tag-exhaustion","tag-sleep-2"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.7 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Are You Sending a Young Child to School Soon?
