I took a picture of the front of my house because it is a mess. \u00a0A total mess. \u00a0A tangle of scooters and helmets, cobwebs and sidewalk chalk, strollers and balance bikes.<\/p>\n

I was coming in from dropping all three off at school, looked at the porch and shook my head.<\/p>\n

Shit. \u00a0This really<\/strong> is a mess. \u00a0Look at this porch, I thought to myself. \u00a0You really should care more about the appearance of your home, Meghan.<\/p>\n

You should be putting all of those things away nightly. \u00a0Even better, why aren’t the\u00a0children<\/em> trained to do it.<\/p>\n

THAT’S YOUR JOB<\/em>, MEGHAN.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I snapped the picture to punish myself. \u00a0To post it on Facebook and tell the world:<\/p>\n

LOOK! \u00a0Look at what a failure I am. \u00a0Look at how ashamed I should feel! \u00a0Look everyone, you should punish me, too!<\/p>\n

I went inside and downloaded the picture:<\/p>\n

Huh. \u00a0I had backed up so that I could get the totality of the mess. \u00a0So I could capture the Radio Flyer the kids have been dragging up and down the street.<\/p>\n

But I also captured the flag. \u00a0And the light. \u00a0And the plants, and some chalk drawings on the ground.<\/p>\n

I often think my house, my business, my marriage, my life is a mess.<\/p>\n

And sometimes it is. \u00a0All that junk I was ashamed of? \u00a0It is all there, on the porch.<\/p>\n

But like this picture shows, everything is\u00a0not<\/em> a total<\/strong> mess.<\/p>\n

And if I brave enough to admit it, some of this mess could even be beautiful.<\/p>\n

(And yes, I am still going to clean this up. \u00a0Just a little.)<\/p>\n
